Joni – Spring Dog Portraits
We met Devin and Krystina at the Belgravia off leash area for a spring dog portrait session with Joni, their 3 year old shepherd-mix. Joni loves to run and chase, but she is also one of the most well trained and respectful dogs we have ever met. We love hearing the stories of the dogs we photograph, Devin adopted Joni almost 3 years ago, and this is their story:
Devin knew that he wanted to get a dog and he had been looking at some of the rescue organizations around Edmonton, trying to decide what type of dog he was looking for. One fateful day he saw an advertisement for SCARS (Second Chance Animal Rescue Society), they were having an adoption event at the Tail Blazers near his home. It seemed harmless enough to just go look at some puppies.
This is when Devin met Joni. She was a scrawny little pup with ears too big for her body and a big goofy grin. Devin fell in love. Devin decided to take Joni for a walk. Then he took her for another walk. He had a hard choice to make…was Joni the right dog for him?
An adoption coordinator could see that Devin was having a very intense conversation with himself as he tried to decide if he was ready for this commitment. “What would you do if you came back tomorrow and you found out that Joni wasn’t here anymore, that someone else had adopted her?” she asked Devin.
Even retelling the story Devin still gets a weepy, “Well, well I would just be heartbroken”. So Devin adopted Joni.
Two years later Devin asked his girlfriend Krystina to marry him; and so together, Joni and Devin adopted Krystina.
